Signs of Spinal Arthritis

Spinal arthritis symptoms can make even normal daily activities extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible. Just getting out of bed can be a challenge, let alone going to work and performing leisure activities like gardening. Although both the type of symptoms experienced and the intensity can vary from person to person, spinal arthritis symptoms can include:

  • Pain
  • Tingling or pins and needles
  • Numbness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle spasms
  • Limited range of motion
  • Difficulty bending
  • Sensation of crunching and of bone rubbing against bone
  • Loss of muscle control
  • More

Spinal Arthritis Treatments

Spinal arthritis symptoms can be more noticeable in the morning and can become worse after periods inactivity such as after sitting for a long time. In most cases, the symptoms can be lessened with conservative treatments including:

  • Epidural cortisone injections
  • Rest
  • Exercise
  • Strength training
  • Hot and cold compresses
  • Pain medications, both over–the–counter and prescription
  • Muscle relaxers
  • Anti-inflammatory medicines

If these treatments fail to bring enough relief to allow the afflicted person to live a fulfilling life, some doctors will recommend surgery as a last resort. In these cases, endoscopic spine treatment is a safe, effective, and proven alternative to open back and neck surgery. This procedure offers many benefits over open back and neck surgery, including the use of local rather than general anesthesia, less trauma to the body, and a significantly shorter recovery time.

One of our doctors will be happy to provide you with a complimentary review of your MRI or CT scan and determine if you’re eligible for one of our endoscopic procedures.
