Arthritis of any kind can be unbelievably painful, but when it’s in your back you may suffer even more. That’s because pain from arthritis of the spine irritates nerves that stretch into every limb, and these can carry the throbbing aches with them. Unfortunately, traditional medicine has little to offer you aside from over-the-counter pain relievers and hot compresses that only dull the pain temporarily. Here’s how the procedure works to reduce pain caused by arthritis of the spine:

• Day 1: As a new patient, you’ll be evaluated at one of our facilities. A complete medical history and physical are conducted, along with lab work, an EKG, and an MRI or X-Ray if needed.
• Day 2:  A surgeon will discuss the MRI findings with you, explaining their surgical implications.
• Day 3: Prior to surgery, a staff anesthesiologist will describe the types of medications that will be used to keep you comfortable and alert during surgery. The surgery, which generally lasts about an hour, is performed and after a short recovery you are sent home the same day.
• Day 4: You’ll meet with one of our physical therapists who will determine your post-op needs and start that course of action.
• Day 5: Your incision wound will be checked, and a post-operative evaluation of your progress will be conducted. Your last physical therapy session takes place, and you are permanently discharged.

You can expect to recovery quickly and avoid the complications that come with general anesthesia or large incisions, such as infections. In as little as two weeks, you’ll be back to your normal activities and benefitting from greatly reduced arthritis of the spine pain.
